May 6-8th:
I, Tim Douglas, made a 72-hour trip back to the US of A (from the DR). WWR accomplished 2 major goals during this time. The first, was securing another private donor funding (fist pump) for a WASH in Schools program in Batey 4. It will be our third planned Batey Project in the Dominican Republic. Batey 4 is a critical area to improve due to recent cholera cases, and we are currently laying the groundwork for this project. We have already evaluated the school’s facilities, and with the school director’s help we are drafting diagrams to organize pipe layout, where hand-washing stations will be installed, and how the water purification system will fit into the existing water system.
The second major goal of my trip back to the States was to mule a complete water purification system, 2 drinking fountain taps, and a bamboo fishing pole back to the DR—without a scratch. Needless to say, it went smoothly. Our highlight of the week may have been the response we got upon showing Emilio Desena, World Vision’s Regional Director, the drinking water fountains. Never seen before in the DR, it seemed as if we had time warped to the year 2015.
